The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, ranked #3 in US News & World Report, is a complex academic and clinical department in the School of Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals, which include the UW Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, VA Hospitals, and Children’s Hospital. The Department is comprised of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Prosthetics & Orthotics, Neuropsychology, and Vocational Rehabilitation units, as well as four undergraduate and graduate degree programs. In addition the department hosts six federally funded Centers and attracts more than $ 7 million in grants from various funding sources.
The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine currently has an outstanding opportunity for a COUNSELING SERVICES COORDINATOR.
The Academic Counselor in the Division of Occupational Therapy provides counseling related to three areas of the Division: recruitment, admission, and academic progression. He/ she serves as the primary contact for prospective applicants, active applicants and current graduate students in the Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program. The position is responsible for guidance regarding admission requirements, admissions process, financial aid, medical requirements, program requirements, and graduate school requirements during the academic coursework and clinical internship aspects of the program. This includes guidance in accomplishing academic goals so as to ensure compliance with departmental and university requirements for completion of the program and in student activities related to the program.
Responsibilities:
1. Advising; 5% of the time.The desired end result of these activities is to retain high quality students, provide excellent customer service to students, and contribute to the overall quality of the students’ educational experience in the program.
2. Counsel prospective occupational therapy applicants (non-students) related to applying and being admitted to the program; 25% of time. The desired end result of these activities is to increase the number of qualified applicants to the occupational therapy program.
3. Evaluate Admissions; 25% of time. The desired result is to organize and facilitate the annual admissions process by providing pertinent and accurate information to the admissions committee.
4. Develop Advising Materials/Resources; 5% of time. The desired result of these activities is to provide current, accurate, and quality recruitment and informational materials for applicants and students in the OT program. This assists applicants in the application process and current students in successfully carrying out student activities and requirements of the programs.
5. Liaison with Central University Counseling Services; 5% of time (Career Services, Minority Affairs) for student referrals, records, etc. The desired outcome of these activities is to facilitate integration and recruitment within the University system.
6. Administration - 35% of time. The desired outcome of these activities is to provide administrative support to the Division so as to establish excellent service to our students, enhance professional relationships within the community, and maintain the excellent quality of our program.
