Essential Functions |
• Maintains, manages, schedules, and provides direct instructional support for Instructional Photography facilities; including darkrooms, digital lab, photography studio, and print presentation facilities. • Manages the photo store’s inventory and communicates weekly with Media Loan’s program manager to provide Media Loan’s front desk with clear information on photo products, upcoming academic use, work orders, and photo processing workflow. • Orders supplies and equipment needed for the photo store, wet labs, and all instructional photo labs on campus with the exception of the Digital Imaging Studio. • Manage Photo Service Film Lab in consultation with the Photo Lab Manager. • Supervises and has significant responsibility in planning, developing, implementing, and reviewing photographic instructional support programs requiring knowledge of photographic discipline, computer applications, and darkroom methods, maintenance, and development. • Responsibilities involve performing and/or supervising staff in photographic instructional support including professional and technical work for the entire college and providing technical and photographic expertise in coordination of projects and academic programs related to the development of instructional materials for all Faculty and in particular Visual Arts and Media faculty • Supervises student staff of 4-8 FTE, including interviewing and recommending selection of applicants, training new employees, assigning and scheduling work. • Tracks instructional photo budget and prepares cost estimates in consultation with the Associate Director of Media Services • Leads interns and advanced students in critiques for developing portfolios and public art exhibitions. • Repairs, tests, and maintains photographic lab equipment and digital instructional tools, and facilities with the exception of the Digital Imaging Studio. • In consultation with the Associate Director of Media Services and the photoland staff team, develops plans for facility and equipment changes; designs or arranges for design development to meet teaching needs. • Coordinates functions related to photographic instructional programs such as darkrooms, digital imaging studies, stockrooms, chemical collections using safety procedures in handling hazardous materials used in photographic printing. • In consultation with faculty and students, helps solve education problems relating to visual literacy and photographic expression. • Consults with the academic photographer to support their needs with staffing photo productions and post-production. • Writes and edits photographic instructional materials in consultation with the Instructional Media Coordinator. • Studies and evaluates new trends and developments in media and photographic production and equipment technology; makes recommendations for changes and/or improvements to faculty and staff relating to their specific educational problems. • Leads workshops to teach faculty, staff, and students in the basic principles of photography. • Participates in conferences, workshops, and demonstrations regarding the application and utilization of instructional media and photographic methods and materials. • Instructs photography and digital imaging workshops to support programs and classes. • Develops and delivers new employee training for hourly student workers, interns, and temporary workers. • Authorizes the use of keys issued to all hourly photo employees. • Attends Photo Services, Media Services, Visual Arts group, CAT, Moving Image Group, and related campus meetings. • Performs related work as required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities |
• Knowledge of a broad range of both digital and analog photographic equipment (35mm, medium formats, large formats, DSLRs, Point & Shoots, and studio lighting) • Knowledge of and ability to provide instruction on analog and digital advanced photographic equipment and facilities. • Skill in and ability to plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate instructional programs for a wide range of instructional photography classes. • Skill in Adobe Creative Suite, with advanced experience in Photoshop, Lightroom, and advanced photo printing technologies (both analog and digital) • Skill in and ability to maintain and utilize a shared database such as FileMaker, facilities scheduling application. • Skill in and ability to work with different computer operating systems (Mac OS and Windows). • Skill in and ability to work with Microsoft Office applications. • Skill in and ability to schedule complex work shifts and utilize shared scheduling application such as ZoomShift. • Ability to provide media-photo consultation, make recommendations, and work collaboratively to meet long and short-term goals with a variety of groups and individuals with various needs and levels of expertise. • Ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with diverse groups and individuals. • Ability to work collaboratively with the head of instructional media in creating and documenting instructional materials, workshop outlines, wiki articles, etc. • Ability to successfully prioritize a variety of projects and tasks and strong skill in time and resource management. • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills. • Knowledge of instructional support needs related to equipment, scheduling, staffing, etc. • Ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
